Lately, I've heard a lot of comments about small people that make me madish-defensive.
First: someone was talking about running and preparations for a half marathon. She said how all her training friends were shorter than she is, so naturally she runs faster. Uh. So you're faster than everyone you're taller than? Most of the best women distance runners are TINY.
Second: at symphony last night I heard some woman talking about the pianist. The pianist, Russian, was not short and not too thin. She was in shape and obviously had buff arms from playing the piano. Fine. Normal, right? This woman said something ridiculous like, "Wow, it's amazing she gets such a sound out when she's that tiny. I wouldn't think she had it in her to play like that." Whaaaat? People are so weird.
Anyway, I don't play the piano as well as this concert pianist, but I CAN play the piano (small hands and all) and I can run faster than some people who are taller than I am.
you don't play piano by brute force! you use technique so that you don't have to make your muscles strain (like using natural weight from the back and arms, etc). that lady didn't know what she was talking about. and neither did the runner
